Amazon rolls out a new map for Lord of the Rings series

Amazon has allocated a lot of money already (think hundreds of millions) to their upcoming LORD OF THE RINGS series, and so far there’s still a ton we don’t know about where they’re taking it. What we need is some sort of teaser, poster or plot synopsis, and now that the social media accounts are live for the series, Amazon has unveiled the first official look at…a map. Yes, it’s a map., and we have seen plenty of maps of Middle-earth across the movies, but this one is special because it’s…blank? Yes, a blank map with no writing on it whatsoever, so…

Okay, it’s best if you look at it for yourselves. Below you’ll see the tweet from the “Lord of the Rings on Prime” page, showing a familiar look at Middle-earth, but curiously, with no writing or landmarks on it. There’s also a link embedded in the image that takes you to an interactive section of the map, but as there is nothing to click on, it’s basically just an old-timey version of Google Maps.

Yeah, so, not a lot to go expect the quote in the captions. It’s the start of the famous quote from the Tolkien books. Some of you more die-hard LOTR fans may know it by heart, but here’s the full quote to spark your imagination.

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,

Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,

One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Now, it’s unclear if the rest of the quote will be factored into the rest of the social media marketing, or if it’s just a sort of calling card to get fans excited about what Amazon has in store. I don’t think they would post something like this without it being a tease for something greater, so my guess is more will be added to the map in the future and fans will be able to click on the link and do some exploring.

Oh well, at least we have the TOLKIEN movie to hold us over until more LOTR details come out, which is…enough?
