Amber Heard close to diving into the water for Aquaman

Things are starting to come together a little bit more for the expansion of the DC Cinematic Universe as we prepare our run up to and through BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. All sorts of rumblings are making the rounds as to what fans might expect out of DAWN OF JUSTICE as well as SUICIDE SQUAD later in the year, and now it appears James Wan is getting in on the action with adding a few more pieces to his AQUAMAN effort.

Amber Heard is in talks to join the DCU, starring opposite Jason Momoa as Mera, effectively positoning herself as the love interest of Aquaman. Now, while AQUAMAN doesn't hit screens until 2018, her casting is coming at this stage, because she would be introduced in the first JUSTICE LEAGUE film, which is scheduled for a November 2017 release and lined up to head into production fairly soon.

Most recently Heard could be seen in both MAGIC MIKE XXL and THE DANISH GIRL.

It's difficult to know exactly how well Heard fits into the DCU, as a lot of this role hinges on her chemistry with Momoa. If it's there, it should be fine. If it's not, then that's going to be a big weakness AQUAMAN has to overcome as it aims to find success. Otherwise, I see no big problems here. For anyone who wants to point out that Heard is traditionally a blonde wheras Mera is a redhead… they do have hair dye and wigs to solve those sorts of problems.

AQUAMAN swims into theaters on July 27, 2018.
