Amblin and Cynthia Erivo team on podcast-inspired thriller Carrier

Grab your E-Z Pass, some choice road tunes, and settle in for a long haul, because Amblin Partners is gearing up to hit the open road with a film based on the sci-fi podcast Carrier. Created by the audio studio QCode and Dan Blank, CARRIER has landed Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award-winning actress Cynthia Erivo (HARRIET, THE OUTSIDER) to reprise her role from the original podcast presentation.

Under the direction of Blank, Erivo will assume the role of Raylene, a truck driver who accepts an off-the-books long hall trucking assignment to cover for her ill father. She soon realizes that her mysterious cargo is a threat to the world and various forces begin targeting her to control or destroy it. (via Deadline)

In addition to leading the cast, Erivo will also produce, alongside Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (UPGRADE, SINISTER, MIDNIGHT SPECIAL) and QCode partner Rob Herting. Meanwhile, Fred Berger and David Henning will executive produce.

In talking about bringing QCode's first feature film adaptation to screen, Amblin Partners’ President of Production Jeb Brody said “A great story can transcend its medium to find new forms and new audiences. Cynthia, Dan and QCode created a gripping and entertaining podcast that deserved all the praise and attention it garnered. We can’t wait to work with them to tell this story in its next evolution.”

Erivo, who'd recently received two Oscar nominations for her work on HARRIET added, “It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to bring this podcast to the screen and marks the beginning of a new adventure in creativity for me as a producer.”

Carrier, which consists of seven intriguing episodes, was recently named as one of The Best Podcasts of 2019 by Esquire. With a compelling premise and Erivo behind the wheel, this upcoming adaptation is assuredly a project we'll want to keep out eyes on.
