Starring Catherine Keener, Ellen Page and James Franco, CRIME goes a little something like this: “This,” said Prosecutor Leroy New, “has been the most terrible crime ever committed in the state of Indiana;” the first crime of child abuse that broke through reticence and denial to register with the public. In Tommy O’Haver’s heartbreaking and hard-hitting film, AN AMERICAN CRIME, Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener portrays Gertrude Baniszewski, the seemingly ordinary housewife who imprisons and tortures a beautiful teenager, played by Gemini Award winner Ellen Page, in the basement of her house – two portrayals that will resonate with audiences long after they leave the theatre.
Count me in! With Page rockin’ her role in HARD CANDY, it doesn’t strain the mind too much to think of her in yet another abused teenager role… and I can’t wait to watch her doing it again (she does it so well). Not only that, but Keener… what can I say, the woman’s hot! Sure, she’s not-so-hot in this flick, but she’s hot none-the-less, and she has some serious acting abilities… all in all, this flick sounds like a winner!
If you’d like to know more, check out the flick’s Official Page, though as it is right now, all you’ll be able to check out is the teaser trailer for the film (and that’s if you’re lucky, as I couldn’t see jack). Stick around for more images from the film, and prepare for the hard-hitting AN AMERICAN CRIME to hit theaters later this year. PS: the flick’s rated R for strong and disturbing depiction of child abuse and torture.
