“American Horror Story” Season 2 gets a subtitle

“American Horror Story: Asylum” is what we’ll be calling the sophomore season of AHS from now on. It’s effective and to the point, not to mention obvious; one of the only things we’ve known about the new season thus far is that it’s set in an “east coast institution.” Plus, it clearly separates itself from the first season, which it has no relation to. (At least, that’s what they’re pitching us.)

Series creator and show-runner Ryan Murphy explains the subtitle:


“We picked ‘Asylum’ because it not only describes the setting – an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange’s character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward – but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted. This year’s theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors.”

The new season, which takes place in 1964, commenced production last month, and will begin airing on FX in October. No specific date has yet been announced.
