American Horror Story’s Frances Conroy has joined Spike’s The Mist series

Spike's new series The Mist, a new adaptation of Stephen King's novella, has its star! Frances Conroy will be taking the helm as Nathalie, "a modern-day ecological martyr. While she is seemingly more connected to nature than most people, her instincts about her fellow humans are dead on."

I've loved Conroy ever since she blew the lid off American Horror Story in the first season (as the older counterpart to Alexandra Breckenridge as the tragic and sinister maid Moira) and every subsequent season. She's a vital part of the ensemble and she's willing to go as far out as she can for a performance. However, she's had previous flirtations with the genre in Six Feet Under. She can also be seen on How I Met Your Mother as Barney Stinson's ex-hippy mom.

I can't be more excited to be seeing her on another horror show, and her casting makes me much more receptive to the concept of this show.

Here's the original story of THE MIST…

It's a hot, lazy day, perfect for a cookout, until you see those strange dark clouds. Suddenly a violent storm sweeps across the lake and ends as abruptly and unexpectedly as it had begun. Then comes the mist…creeping slowly, inexorably into town, where it settles and waits, trapping you in the supermarket with dozens of others, cut off from your families and the world. The mist is alive, seething with unearthly sounds and movements. What unleashed this terror? Was it the Arrowhead Project—the top secret government operation that everyone has noticed but no one quite understands? And what happens when the provisions have run out and you're forced to make your escape, edging blindly through the dim light?

The show will be overseen by Christian Torpe, a Danish writer who created the popular series Rita in Denmark. The pilot is directed by Adam Bernstein (Fargo). The ten episode first season of The Mist is slated to descend in 2017.
