Amity DVD Scary

Here’s a novel concept. How about packaging venerated horror franchises for DVD with some actual thought to real extras for the fans. The studios so far seem to think that simply making titles available will pull money from hardcore genre fans – well admittedly they’re right about that – but they’re missing the bigger picture. You expand your product distribution by appealing to those who aren’t seething fanboys, and you do that by giving them a good reason to buy your product. Once again, however, we get a pretty anemic release in the MGM Amityville Horror Special Edition Giftset.

The street date is scheduled as April 5th and will set you back $39.96. For that you will get all three movies, yes you too can own AMITYVILLE 3-D! On top of that you get three almost certain to be lame documentaries (you know the type), a sneak peak at the upcoming remake (presumably for those without internet access), 7 radio spots (huh?), and the original theatrical trailer.

No commentaries! No deleted scenes! No alternate endings! No soup for you!

Ah well, maybe the bean counters will learn their lesson next year.
