Attention Clone Club members! It's been reported that AMC is in the early stages of developing a new series set in the ORPHAN BLACK universe. This glorious news comes to us courtesy of Variety, who say that their sources have stressed that the new project will not be a spinoff or reboot of the original series, but rather a completely new story set in the same world. What's more is that Temple Street Productions, the studio behind the original series, has already signed on to produce the new project. For the moment, the powers that be are on the hunt for a writer, stipulating that they plan to meet with multiple people in the interest of hearing different ideas for the series.
ORPHAN BLACK, co-created by John Fawcett and Graeme Manson, launched via BBC in 2013. The sci-fi drama starred Tatiana Maslany as Sarah Manning, a streetwise hustler who is pulled into a conspiracy after witnessing the suicide of a girl who looks just like her. In time, Manning learns that she is part of a shadowy plot that involves clones, government secrets, and a killer that's out to destroy them all.
When ORPHAN BLACK was on the air, the show received high-praise from both fans and critics alike. During the series' tenure, the sci-fi spectacle and Maslany were nominated for three Emmys and a Golden Globe. In 2016, Maslany won an Emmy for her stellar performance(s) as Sarah Manning (and her clones). The show lasted for five seasons, much to the dismay of Clone Club members. The group launched a campaign to keep the show on the air, but alas, ORPHAN BLACK never returned for a sixth season.
