An omen for Omen

Remember that potential onesheet for the upcoming OMEN remake that director John Moore showed Fangoria? Well, here’s something ever scarier.

According to Daytona Beach News-Journal, Fox had a little promo going on intending to spread the news (stick whatever adjective you want in front of that) of the remake, where a plane trailed a banner in the Daytona area that read ‘6/6/06 You Have Been Warned’. Now, whether these people who saw the banner weren’t familiar with the significance of 6-6-6 or they were just as pissed as the rest of us over the remake, these same people called the FBI and other law enforcement agencies, believing the message to be a terrorist threat. One resident stated that “[The banner’s message] made me feel really creepy, especially in this day and age.” Um, wasn’t that the entire point?

Yep, it seems it’s no longer Satan that America is worried about, it’s terrorism. Fox was quick to rectify the situation by releasing a statement saying, “This weekend, Twentieth Century Fox will introduce THE OMEN to a whole new generation, telling spring breakers, ‘You have been warned!’ from the sky. We’re thrilled that the college students in Daytona have responded so enthusiastically to the sky banners.” Uh right, I’m as dumbfounded as you are.

Similar promotions were also planned for Panama City, FL as well as Texas and Arizona, but you can guess what happened to those plans. THE OMEN, starring Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, Mia Farrow and David Thewlis, opens June 6th. To read more on this story, click here.
