Anchor Bay picks up rights to long-delayed 13, starring Jason Statham

Anchor Bay Films has picked up U.S. rights to 13, Geno Babluani’s remake of his own French-language thriller 13 TZAMETI. This film was released all over the globe last year, but it’s been a struggle to get domestic distribution. Now Anchor Bay has nabbed it at the Toronto Film Festival.

13 actually has a pretty impressive cast, including
Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Michael Shannon, Sam Riley, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Ben Gazzara and Alexander Skarsgard. However, if you watch the promo trailer below, you may get a hint of why it’s taken so long to reach us. It just doesn’t look very good. (Though the original is a pretty decent little thriller.)

The synopsis: A naive young man assumes a dead man’s identity and finds himself embroiled in an underground world of power, violence, and chance where men gamble behind closed doors on the lives of other men.

No release date has been announced.
