And Just Like That… boasts HBO Max’s strongest series debut to date

It looks like fans missed the women of Sex And The City. The new sequel series, And Just Like That… delivered the strongest 24-hour performance in HBO Max’s history and is their strongest series debut to date, per the streamer via “Deadline.”

Like all of the streaming services, HBO Max didn’t release hard figures on this but they did say that the opener ranks in the Top 10 of all HBO Max’s movies and series debuts, including both HBO and Max originals. The show only trailed some of the huge tentpole releases that launched on the platform.

HBO Max says And Just Like That… also saw the most first views of any HBO Max title and that means that the first thing new subscribers watched after signing up was the Sex And The City sequel series. This is where a lot of these platforms measure their success so that’s promising for the show’s future, which is said to already be thinking about a season two. The new show also boosted viewership for the original Sex And The City series which was up 59% in viewership from the previous week and ranked 11th on the platform.

And Just Like That…sees the return of Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, who are reprising their roles from the original HBO. series which ran from 1998-2004. The show was a critical and pop-cultural hit that has continued to maintain relevance in the years since it went off the air. The series spawned two movies, one very successful, and a sequel that did so-so business but the original show continues to be a mainstay in syndication and streaming. While the original show followed the women as they navigated life, love, friendship, and sex in their 30s, the HBO Max revival will explore the even more complicated reality of doing all of that in their 50s. Other returning cast members include David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Mario Cantone, and the late Willie Garson. New cast additions include Sara Ramirez, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, Julie Halston, and Sarita Choudhury.
