Andor: Diego Luna says the Star Wars show will offer new perspective of the Rogue One character

Last month, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story returned to big screens briefly to reacquaint audiences and build hype for the new Disney+ show, Andor, centered around Diego Luna’s character, Cassian Andor. To help entice fans, the screenings featured footage from the new spin-off series that will be debuting on September 21. Diego Luna recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss how he re-acclimated himself with this character and what to expect from the show.

Luna insists that the ending we’ve seen from Andor that’s depicted in Rogue One is only a snippet of who the character is. The new show intends to give a new perspective on the Star Wars rebel and re-contextualize everything you’ve known about him thus far.

Luna tells THR,

In fact, we’re going to challenge every idea you have, or every answer you came up with, for why or how things happened and why this character did what he did. Everyone who watched Rogue One thinks they have the answer. So we’re going to challenge that, and we’re going to come to you and say, ‘No, listen, things were not the way you imagined. They were this way. This had to happen for someone to become the person you know.’”

The prequel series is headed by showrunner and writer of Rogue One, Tony Gilroy. The story takes place five years before we first see him in Rogue One. Andor is on a search for someone from his past, and the journey leads him through a slew of trouble, and he finds his way to the Rebels of the galaxy. Gilroy has already mapped out the show through season 2, in which three episode blocks take place in one year of the story.

Luna adds, “I think it’s perfect. It’s lovely. It’s almost like four different movies [via four three episode blocks]. There is also space in between each block where time passes, so we’re allowed to evolve and transform.”

Rogue One is currently streaming on Disney+, and Andor will debut on the streaming service on September 21.
