Say what you will, but THE DA VINCI CODE sucked major donkey balls. Was it the pacing? Was it the lame subject matter? Or was it simply Tom Hanks’ goofy-ass hair style? Either way you toss it, the flick blew chunks… but that doesn’ t mean its sequel, ANGELS & DEMONS, will… or at least that’s what producer Brian Grazer is hoping you’d believe.
USA Today scored the first images from the new movie from director Ron Howard, based on the book by Dan Brown, starring Hanks and new hottie sidekick Ayelet Zurer (below). The new pics feature Hanks and Zurer on the move and in a tomb, the elaborate Vatican sets, and even a shot of Ewan McGregor as one of the cardinals. Very nice.
While I could give a flying f*ck about THE DA VINCI CODE, I am somewhat interested in this sequel, if only because the story sounds better and it leaves all the silly religious controversy at the door. Briefly, DEMONS centers on an act of terrorism at the Vatican and examines the tension between science and faith.
Murders of cardinals and lurking around in tombs to find the clues… I can dig on that, yo! And the question you’ve all been asking yourself: will Hanks’ goofy looking hair be back for the sequel? As Grazer puts it: It’s totally different from Hanks’ slicked-back coif of the original… It’s better. Everything is more contemporary.
