Animated Scooby-Doo Movie To Star Gina Rodriguez and Will Forte

JANE THE VIRGIN's Gina Rodriguez and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's Will Forte are set to star in the upcoming animated SCOOBY-DOO movie, with the Mystery Machine set to roll into Hollywood for a May 2020 release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actors have officially closed their deals to star in the untitled SCOOBY-DOO movie, which is being made by Warner Bros. and its Warner Animation Group division. Tony Cervone, who worked in the animation department on both SPACE JAM and FANTASTIC MR. FOX, will direct with Chris Columbus, Charles Roven and Allison Abbate producing.

Rodriguez, who recently appeared alongside Natalie Portman in Alex Garland's ANNIHILATION, will voice Velma, the brains of the group, while MACGRUBER favorite Forte will voice Shaggy, the sweet natured hippie who's usually in the corner shaking like a leaf just before Scoobs himself jumps into his owner's loving arms..

30 ROCK star Tracey Morgan will voice Captain Caveman, and veteran voice actor Frank Welker will take on the titular role of the mystery solving, treat-loving, borderline talking Great Dane himself. Welker's relationship with Scooby-Doo dates to the 1972-73 series THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES.

Set within the Hanna-Barbera cartoon universe, the story will reportedly see the Mystery Inc. gang joining forces with other heroes to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans…and this time, apparently, the threat is real. If it weren't for those meddling kids, he'd get away with it, too.

Although known for her roles in MISS BALA and DEEPWATER HORIZON, Rodriguez also completed her first role as a voice actor in the 2018 animated film SMALLFOOT as Kolka. She is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman. Likewise, Forte recently voiced the part of Abraham Lincoln in LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART.

This project marks the first time that the gang has been brought to the big screen since the 2004 live action movie SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED.
