Another Children/Corn?!

In a bizarre piece of news from Variety, it’s been revealed that Bob Weinstein (he of Dimension studios) has tapped scribe Ehren Kruger (THE RING, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN) to adapt Stephen King’s short story “Children of the Corn”. This is bizarre because, obviously, a new CHILDREN film has already recently been made, and will debut in SEPTEMBER 26th on the Syfy channel.

Weinstein, in a statement, doesn’t acknowledge this new film, instead focusing on the 1984 version starring Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton: “We felt the New World film was a missed opportunity… If you read the short story, it’s got such a strong feeling to it and there’s this religious overtone to it as well. Ehren wants to hit it hard. It’s popular in Hollywood to say you re-envisioning a project but a lot of the time they’re just carbon copying the original. We are bringing something new to the story.”

The only thing I can make from all this is that Stephen King is one rich motherf*cker. His original short story was less than 20 pages long, and has already spawned 10 films, including this new remake. Nuts.
