Another Child’s Play poster, another dead Toy Story character

We're one week out from the theatrical releases of both TOY STORY 4 and the remake of the 1988 classic CHILD'S PLAY, and the new CHILD'S PLAY just won't stop referencing this cinema showdown in its marketing materials. A series of posters have been released that have shown Chucky killing his way through the TOY STORY cast – Woody, Slinky Dog, Buzz Lightyear, all dead.

Now a new poster confirms that Chucky has claimed another toy victim. R.I.P. Mr. Potato Head.

I don't think CHILD'S PLAY and TOY STORY 4 are going to do any damage to each other at the box office, they both appeal to different audiences, but the fact that they share a release date sure has allowed the marketing team to have some fun.

Directed by Lars Klevberg from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith, the new CHILD'S PLAY tells the familiar story of

a mother who gives her son a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

The film stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Brian Tyree Henry, Tim Matheson, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke, with Mark Hamill providing the voice of Chucky.

This remake does put its own twist on the original story, as it makes the new Chucky "an obsolete model of the bestselling Buddi doll with a glitch in his chip and the ability to control a vast network of interconnected devices."

Produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith through their company KatzSmith Productions, the new CHILD'S PLAY is being released by MGM subsidiary Orion Pictures through their United Artists Releasing banner on June 21st.
