On Friday My Man Eric showed you a first-look image from Matt Reeves’s upcoming vampire remake LET ME IN (check out that new image HERE). And here we are a weekend later, and wouldn’t you know it–another new pic from the film, this time featuring the film’s two main leads.
Thanks to The L.A. Times, the new image features Abby (Chloe Moretz) and Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) during one of their first awkward teenage romance encounters. Most will recognize this looking exactly the way LET THE RIGHT ONE IN looked, which confirms that Reeves is essentially busting this one out like a shot-for-shot remake.
But that may not be the case, as Reeves is quick to defend himself and the movie by releasing this statement to the L.A. Times: We tried to create the approaching, foreboding dread of movies like ‘The Shining,’ where you feel like something wicked is unraveling and it’s not going to end well. That’s what I responded to about the original, the juxtaposition of those tones, this very disturbing story but at the center of it there are these very tender emotions. That’s a very unusual mix…
I for one have never thought Reeves was a bad choice because he made CLOVERFIELD, or whatever other reasons people seem to have on this guy. I liked CLOVERFIELD, and saying that Reeves will use the same ‘shaky cam’ effect in LET ME IN is ridiculous. It made sense as a storytelling device in CLOVERFIELD… it wouldn’t make sense here. Duh. I just think it’s ridiculous to remake a 2 year old movie because the other movie is subtitled. That’s lame.
