Another Stephen King adaptation going ahead along with two remakes for Palomar Pictures

Stephen King is the man! Okay I just had to get that out of my system, but really he is. It seems like not a week goes by without news on the man and his work. In fact yesterday we had a story about an upcoming adaptation, and now are you ready for another one?

In a huge independent financing deal Joni Sighvattson from Palomar Pictures (the people behind this years KILLER ELITE) have gone into a partnership with Grosvenor Park on a three-film package deal. That package deal includes the Stephen King adaptation of ROSE MADDER and two remakes. The announcement for the groups pairing was made Monday at the AFM, with production on the features hopefully happening within 18 months from now.

ROSE MADDER is a book I read back in 1997; it was a birthday gift from a friend at the time. It was definitely one of the strangest stories I had ever read, and I had always wondered how this would turn out as a film. Nice to know it is going to happen, with Naomi Sheridan having written the adaptation. It centers on a woman who goes on the run from her abusive husband, sounds run of the mill but add in traveling through paintings and you have yourself a nice set up.

The other films in question are remakes for JOSEPH AND THE GIRL, a 2010 French heist thriller that will have Gary McKendry at the helm. The other is ELLIOT, a 2001 Norwegian film based on the novel BLOOD BROTHERS. No helmer yet but the script has been written by Jay Roach, Larry Stuckey and Tom McCarthy.

As I am unfamiliar with the remakes I can’t really comment, but ROSE MADDER certainly has me interested. An interesting read if you find the time and feel like something a little different from King.
