Now why the whole spiel about vampires? Well New Regency has just picked up rights to BALTIMORE, OR THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER AND THE VAMPIRE, which is a graphic novel. I have to say, that’s a great title. Just the addition of the word ‘or’ in there, it just throws people off. The great news is, there’s an amazing team behind this one! First, the authors of the graphic novel, Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, will be writing the script. Now Mignola was the man behind the character of HELLBOY, as well as an artist on BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA and BLADE 2. Sure, that’s great news. But what I’m stoked about is who they have in the director’s chair. David Goyer. The man who wrote the BLADE films (and directed BLADE: TRINITY), he’s also set to helm the X-MEN spinoff MAGNETO (he also co-wrote BATMAN BEGINS). Granted, Goyer’s probably more successful behind the writing instead of the filming, but still, I’m sure he’ll put his two cents into the story.
According to Variety, BALTIMORE, OR THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER AND THE VAMPIRE tells the story of the awakening of supreme evil on Earth. Lord Henry Baltimore is bitten by a demonic vampire bat on a WWI battlefield. The plague destroys his family, and Baltimore creates a team to hunt and fight the Red King, the embodiment of all evil. So, what do you think of the vampire craze? Good? Bad? We’ll keep you updated with any news on BALTIMORE, OR THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER AND THE VAMPIRE as we hear it. (Here’s hoping they keep that title.)
