I personally have yet to experience THE RITE, but everything I’ve heard has been, to be polite, of the “it sucks” variety. (The Arrow was slightly kinder, but not by much.) For me, it had wait-until-DVD written all over it, and it looks like I’ll get the dubious opportunity of checking it out when it hits DVD and Blu-ray on MAY 17th.
While the DVD will only offer a few addition scenes as a supplement, the Blu-ray/DVD Combo release will include those scenes, plus a “chilling alternate ending”, a featurette (“The Rite: Soldier of God”), and a digital copy of the film.
THE RITE, which stars Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciarán Hinds, and Rutger Hauer, follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith.
