Anybody There poster

I have a question for everyone in the whole wide entire god awful world. Why is it, that most big budget Hollywood films–save for a few intelligent blockbusters–suffer from “shitty poster syndrome”? And why is that most indie and foreign films are usually accompanied by posters that exhibit nuanced, original and thoughtful design? Case in point, the upcoming Michael Caine film IS ANYBODY THERE?, a touching tale set in 1980s seaside England, about a boy growing up in a retirement home run by his parents. Struggling to come to terms with the notion of death, the boy meets Caine’s character, a retired magician with a liberating streak of anarchy. Together, the odd couple teach one another essential truths about life. Sounds great no? The poster below is beautiful, and apparently Caine’s performance is too. Do I smell Oscar?
