Aside from “Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy”, the rumor that Judd Apatow will be producing (and more?) GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is one of the internet’s current favorites. Last week, Production Weekly – usually fairly reliable – set it in stone. But the president of Columbia Pictures, which is the studio behind the project, isn’t having it, and has shot the idea down, according to the L.A. Times. (Unless he’s a f*cking bald-faced liar.)
“It’s not true,” says Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures. “We have some great new writers working on a new script, but Judd isn’t involved. Judging from the frenzy on the Internet, there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we’re certainly taking that as a good sign.”
Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky – both writers on “THE OFFICE” – are the last known scribes at work on GB3. When Belgrad says “we have great new writers”, I wonder if he’s referring to them, or to even newer writers…
Let’s face it, at least one of Apatow’s stable of actors – Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Jason Segal, Jonah Hill – is bound to end up in this movie. They’ll also need a hot chick… May I suggest cutie Elizabeth Banks – who has comedic and horror acting chops – for the female lead?
