Apple snags Lord and Miller’s murder mystery comedy series Afterparty

Apple TV+ is getting ready for one hell of a shindig after giving Phil Lord and Chris Miller's AFTERPARTY an eight-episode straight-to-series order. The project, which is already expected to have hired a line producer and is narrowing its search for a lead, was created by Miller who will also serve as showrunner.

In what Deadline has heard so far, AFTERPARTY is described as a murder mystery set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each of the eight episodes will feature a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the teller’s personality.

AFTERPARTY is being reported as Lord and Miller's most significant undertaking after entering into a lucrative five-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television back in April of 2019. As per the aforementioned deal, the duo are set to develop everything from live-action comedy to drama and animated series through their Lord and Miller studio, as well as a host of TV series based on Sony’s Universe of Marvel characters. A Spider-Gwen series, anyone? Maybe a litle Spider-Pig action? Or, now hear me out, a Spider-Man Noir series with Nicolas Cage reprising the role! How sweet would that be?

We'll be sure to keep and eye out for any further details about AFTERPARTY. In the meantime, Lord and Miller are both hard at work on SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2, an animated adventure that is bound to print its own money when it swings into theaters on October 7, 2022.
