Notes from the Aquaman 2 Panel – DC FanDome

Well, first thing’s first. This wasn’t really an AQUAMAN 2 panel at DC FanDome. In fact, Jason Momoa wasn’t even there, with the panel basically a quick conversation between director James Wan and his favorite leading man, Patrick Wilson, as they shared memories from the first film, with the only nugget being something we already know – that he’ll be back as Orm.

Here are other notes from the quick panel:

  • AQUAMAN was the fifth film Wilson/Wan made together.
  • Wan mentioned it to him for the first time on the set of THE CONJURING 2 and “floated it out there” that he could be Ocean Master.
  • Wan said he wanted Wilson right from the moment he signed on. Felt Wilson was the only guy who could hold his own with Momoa. Says WB was all in and “supportive from day one”.
  • Part of the reason he wanted Wilson is how he’s so different from Momoa, helps shows the fact that Arthur is an “outsider to the world of Atlantis”.
  • On phsyically embodying Ocean Master – Wilson had to push himself physically more than he ever had but working in a harness, pretending it’s nothing, was a challenge.
  • Wilson confirmed he’ll be back for the sequel.
  • Wan says second one is more “serious and relevant to the world we’re living in today.”
  • Wilson hopes to see more “worlds”, there’s “a lot of unexplored ocean out there.”
  • Wan – “I can guarantee new worlds in the sequel”

And there you have it. Well, it wasn’t much and probably the only DC FanDome panel today that didn’t really give much away but still, it’s early days and the film is only due out December 16th, 2022.
