Another great film needlessly tampered with? My oh my…
Word on the net today is Alcon, the finance and production based subsidiary of Warner Bros., is very close to acquiring all film, TV and ancillary rights to Ridley Scott’s BLADE RUNNER, in a deal meant to usher in big (and or small) screen prequels and sequels to the 1982 sci-fi masterwork. I’d imagine not even Ridley Scott is too thrilled about such a prospect…
Bud Yorkin and his wife Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will produce, doing so under the proviso that the original BLADE RUNNER cannot be remade. Prequelized and sequelized? Sure. But remade? Oh hell no!
From co-producers Kosove and Johnson:
“We are honored and excited to be in business with Bud Yorkin. This is a major acquisition for our company, and a personal favorite film for both of us. We recognize the responsibility we have to do justice to the memory of the original with any prequel or sequel we produce. We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only.”
Warner Bros. will distribute all BLADE RUNNER material domestically.
Man, do I even have to ask? To me this is a straight up travesty. I can’t say I’m even all that thrilled about ALIEN being retooled, but now BLADE RUNNER? Straight blasphemy!
Please tell me you’re not in favor of this. Pretty f*ckin please, with sugar on top…
Pris all damn day!
