Say what you will about Dario Argento, but the man truly deserves the title as one of the MASTERS OF HORROR. Case in point: his contribution to the series, which is apparently a little too much for Showtime.
Fango reports that John Landis (who also contributed to the series with ‘Deer Woman’) has said that Argento’s piece proved to be a little too much for the network to handle.
“Dario Argento’s [Jennifer] is probably the wackiest one; it’s the one where you watch and think, ‘What the f**k am I seeing??’ because some of it is pretty shocking,” he says. “They did have to cut one scene for Showtime, involving some cannibalism of a phallus, which is a little severe. I remember when I saw it—and Dario’s a very sweet guy—he said, ‘Oh, come look, this is great!’ And we were all watching it on the Avid going, ‘Jesus Christ!’ So it’ll be implied on Showtime, but it will be explicit on the DVD.”
Cannibalism of a phallus?! For the reasoning behind how Argento got that idea past the other directors, and what to expect from Tobe Hooper’s contribution, ‘Dance of the Dead’, head here. The DVD, by the way, is coming from the good folks at Anchor Bay, and will show up next year.
