Army of Thieves: poster for Army of the Dead prequel promises ‘less zombies’

Given the title and the fact that the film is a prequel to Army of the Dead that will give us a glimpse into the life of Matthias Schweighöfer's character Ludwig Dieter before the zombie insanity of Zack Snyder's film, I'm not expecting to see much in the way of the living dead in Army of Thieves. Now a new poster for the film has arrived online to let viewers know they should expect to see "less zombies" this time around.

Schweighöfer directed Army of Thieves, working from a screenplay by Shay Hatten. Snyder crafted the story for the film, which has the following synopsis:

A small-town bank teller, Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol's most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.

The director/star is joined in the cast by Nathalie Emmanuel, Guz Khan, Stuart Martin, Ruby O. Fee, Jonathan Cohen, Noémie Nakai, Trent Garrett, John Bubniak, and Barbara Meier.

Netflix still hasn't announced a release date for Army of Thieves, but there will be a panel for the film during San Diego Comic-Con@Home this Sunday, July 25, at 5pm Eastern. Maybe the release date will be revealed then.

Schweighöfer has been acting since the '90s and directing since 2011. His previous directing credits include four comedy features – What a Man, The Break Up Man, Joy of Fatherhood, and The Manny – and the thriller series You Are Wanted. He produced Army of Thieves with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Dan Maag of Pantaleon Films.

For those of you who have watched Army of the Dead, are you looking forward to seeing a movie that's all about the Dieter character? Share your thoughts on this by leaving a comment below.
