If you can believe it, it has been over forty years since Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael Biehn faced off in the 1984 sci-fi classic The Terminator. Now, at long last, the iconic duo is set to reunite on screen for the first time in four decades for the upcoming action flick, The Kellys.
The Long-awaited Terminator Reunion
The film is currently in production, and Biehn recently opened up about the emotional reunion on his podcast, Just Foolin’ About with Michael Biehn.
“Seeing Arnold again, working with Arnold again, has been absolutely amazing after 40 years,” Biehn shared. “We didn’t really get a chance to work very much [on The Terminator]. We’ve worked together more on [The Kellys] than we did back then. I mean, he actually talks in this one, and he talks to me, and I talk to him.“
The pair made a point of spending an hour catching up on life, career milestones, and paying tribute to the late Bill Paxton—their mutual co-star who appeared with Schwarzenegger in The Terminator and True Lies, and with Biehn in Aliens.
Rogue Cops and Action-Comedy Vibes
Biehn also teased what fans can expect from the film’s tone, describing it as a high-octane action-comedy with plenty of nods to iconic genre flicks.
“It’s basically about a family of police officers who are rogue and don’t necessarily play by the rules, but they get shit done,” Biehn teased, adding that it channels a mix of Dirty Harry, Beverly Hills Cop, and Die Hard.
As for their new dynamic? Biehn revealed a fun twist: he will be playing the boss to Schwarzenegger’s rogue cop.
What is The Kellys About?
The upcoming action flick follows Jack Kelly, a disgraced NYC cop whose wife, Molly, is taken hostage by terrorists inside an old armory building. Subsequently, he’ll have to join forces with the people he fears most to save her: His family. Schwarzenegger will star alongside the previously announced Liam Hemsworth, Kelsey Asbille, Abby Elliot, and Geena Davis.
Deadline has reported that a new handful of actors have now joined the project. In addition to the aforementioned Biehn, The Kellys will also welcome Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), Ron Funches (Harley Quinn), Roland Møller (Mutiny), Laz Alonso (The Boys), Basil Eidenbenz (The Witcher), and Dan Fogler (House of the Dragon).
Brad Peyton (Rampage) is directing from a script by Tze Chun (Gotham), with Amazon MGM Studios handling global distribution for the project, with it set to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries
