One of the most hotly anticipated genre films on the horizon is BLACK SWAN, the supernatural thriller set in the dog-eat-dog (?) world of ballet. Sure, it’s from Darren Aronofsky, but mostly this is known as the movie that features a lesbian throwdown between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. For that alone, it’s got “must see” written all over its sexy body.
The lucky folks who hit the Venice Film Festival in September will evidently be the first ones to see the steamy flick, as Variety has pegged it as the Venice opener. While the official line-up isn’t announced until July 29th, the trade seems certain that BLACK SWAN will be the prestigious festival’s premiere film. That means I’d better get my passport in order, as well as cobble together $5,000 or so. Anyone wanna help a brother out?
BLACK SWAN focuses on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer (Kunis), with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.
Winona Ryder, Sebastian Stan and Vincent Cassel also star in BLACK SWAN, which doesn’t have an official US release date. That will probably change sometime after its premiere.
