Aronofsky’s planned Robocop re-imagining (aka only he can do this one right) put on hold?

Remember how damn stoked (or irate) you were to learn Darren Aronofsky was at the helm of a ROBOCOP reboot? I do. I was like a 13 year old in a porno-aisle. Bliss.

So it comes with great consternation to learn that, in the wake of MGM wanting to lend a 3-D version of the film, Darren Aronofsky’s version of the reboot is currently on hold. You see, when THE WRESTLER director signed onto the flick a couple of years ago, the Hollywood craze for all things 3-D hadn’t really reached the zenith of today (AVATAR). Not only that, Aronofsky is still busy filming of bevy of fine ass ladies in his new thriller BLACK SWAN.

According to a lad over at RoboCop Archive (via Moviehole.net):

“I’ve spoken with Phoenix Pictures [and] asked them about the status of ROBOCOP… they told me that the project is on hold. The problem is that Mary Parent, Chairperson of MGM, wants a 3D movie for the new ROBOCOP. But, as you know, Darren Aronofsky is a real artist and he’s not interested in gimmicks like 3D, CGI, filming digital, he wants to do everything as real (organic) as possible just like The Fountain.”

A raw, stripped down ROBOCOP with little CG would be pretty hard though, wouldn’t it?

Of course, a release push back from 2010 to 2011 never really encouraged us a great deal that the flick was on proper track. With MGM, like most everyone else, susceptible to economic woes, who knows when this sucker will travel the path of least resistance and finally get made.

BLACK SWAN better be tits!

Natalie Portman, one of many fine ladies to star in Aronofsky’s BLACK SWAN!
