Arrival proves the power of language in this heartwarming new video

Have you ever had the experience of being in a foreign country and needing to find a bathroom/hotel/hot dog/ and nobody around you speaks your language? That's basically the plot of Dennis Villenueve's ARRIVAL, only humanity's survival is at stake, not your bladder.

In this new video promoting the movie, producers put two people who don't speak the same language in a room together and asked them to find their common ground. It's a really tender, heartwarming video about the power of language, and if this is the delicacy with which they can treat this topic, ARRIVAL is shaping up to be a massively powerful, if not totally commercial sci-fi phenomenon.

This reminds me of a video that was making the rounds online a while back, showing a variety of strangers sharing a first kiss, only much less creepy. Check it out below!

LIGHTS OUT / FINAL DESTINATION 5 scribe Eric Heisserer wrote the screenplay, working from a short story by Ted Chiang called Story of Your Life:

When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks – are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

ARRIVAL stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, and Michael Stuhlbarg. It arrives in theaters on November 11th.
