But that hasn’t detoured others from remaking more Thai horror! The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Cerenzie-Peters Productions have picked up the remake rights to the horror series ART OF THE DEVIL, a trilogy of horror films released in Thailand that have been incredibly successful. In fact, the third film was just released in theaters–debuting at No. 1 for the weekend box office!
The DEVIL trilogy is unique due to the concept behind the series, which essentially deals with themes of revenge, black magic, and mysterious deaths as the bonds that tie the films together. Characters and storylines are pretty much unrelated beyond those themes.
The first of the three films to be remade is actually Part II, which featured a group of high school kids who fall victim to supernatural tattoos. Nothing like those crazy high school kids getting all tatted up… with the devil’s ink!!! Could there be a morality tale in there somewhere as well? Maybe…
No word on when the film is set to slide into production, but we’ll keep you posted as to when it’s announced! In the meantime, this may be the perfect opportunity to track down the original ART OF THE DEVIL titles, as they must be somewhat decent if they plan on remaking them, no?
