As far as Rooney Mara knows, she may be back for Dragon Tattoo sequel

When David Fincher's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO remake turned out not to be quite as successful as the studio had hoped, it seemed doubtful that adaptions of "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest" from the same team would follow. Then, just a little over a week ago, word broke that Sony was looking to ressurect the franchise by adapting the most recent novel in the Millennium series, "The Girl in the Spider's Web". Steven Knight is in talks to handle to page-to-screen adaptation, which is apparently looking to recast the main roles.

However Rooney Mara, who played the part of Lisbeth Salander in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, claims that the part may still be hers and that she'd love to return. The actress spoke with E! Online and said:

I'm doing it unless someone tells me that I'm not—and then I still might do it.

As a big fan of what Fincher and the cast did in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, I'd be thrilled to have Rooney Mara back as Lisbeth, but if Sony really is wanting to start the series off fresh, I can't imagine that they'd want any ties with the previous film confusing people. The previous report also claimed that one of the actresses being eyed to replace Mara is Alicia Vikander (EX MACHINA).

Should it be possible, would you like to see Rooney Mara return to the role of Lisbeth Salander?
