Belushi’s widow Judy is working with former SNL writer Anne Beatts on a new TV project that would feature Jake and Elwood Blues busting out of jail and searching for Elwood’s father. Dan Aykroyd is expected to cameo as the voice of the brothers’ parole officer.
This is (sadly) not the first time someone has tried to bring the “Blues Brothers” to the small screen. In the mid-90s, an animated series was produced but never actually aired on TV.
I had hoped that BLUES BROTHERS 2000 would be a merciful end to the franchise that would allow future generations to simply enjoy the genius of the 1980 John Landis film but that appears to not be the case. Especially with TV on a remake-happy run lately that includes new version of “Charlie’s Angels” and “The Munsters” on the way.
At the current time, the series is being shopped to networks but hasn’t yet been picked up for a pilot order so hopefully we never get that far (and hopefully Jim Belushi stays far away from this).
