The good news is, this isn’t a premature sequel to PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. The bad news is, it’s The Asylum!.
That’s right folks, the cinephiles behind THE DAY THE EARTH STOPPED and HALLOWEEN NIGHT are once again riding the coattails of a blockbuster by creating their own “mockbuster” (their word, not mine). This time, obviously, it’s PARANORMAL ACTIVITY they’re ripping off. While not much is known about it (and really, do we need to know much?), Quiet Earth has discovered this brief synopsis: Actual found videotape footage of the 2008 “murders” of the Finley family.
I continue to sit in awe of The Asylum’s shamelessness. You have to hand it to them – they really don’t give a f*ck. What really shocks me, though, is that they continue to have funds for these flicks. I guess it’s all that cash SyFy inexplicably hands over to air their dreadful movies? (It seems like H.G. WELLS’ WAR OF THE WORLDS is always on.) Whatever the case, I must give David Michael Latt and Co. a hearty – if snarky – round of applause. Get rich or die tryin’, right fellas?
