Attack of the Killer Tomatoes reboot starts shooting today!

Well, this is surprising news! Today we have word that not only is there an ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES reboot in the works, but it starts shooting today! AMITYVILLE: EVIL NEVER DIES director Dustin Ferguson made the announcement over on Facebook, writing:

Today I Direct the first attack scene for the "Attack of The Killer Tomatoes" reboot!!! This has been a long time coming and I couldn't be more honored!

A number of sequels and other spin-offs have been produced over the years including RETURN OF THE KILLER TOMATOES, KILLER TOMATOES STRIKE BACK!, and KILLER TOMATOES EAT FRANCE! RETURN OF THE KILLER TOMATOES is notable for featuring George Clooney in one of his first film roles. On top of those sequels, the first film spawned a '90s animated series, a 1986 8-bit video game, a 1991 Nintendo video game, and a comic book adaptation. As if you didn't know, the original film centered on 

A group of scientists who band together to save the world from mutated killer tomatoes.

The original film was directed by John DeBello from a screenplay he wrote with Costa Dillon and Stephen Peace. DeBello and Peace produced the flick which starred David Miller, George Wilson, and Costa Dillon. NAI Entertainment unleashed the movie into theaters back on October 20, 1978.
