Attack of the Southern Fried Zombies lands North American distribution

Earlier this year, we featured the trailer for director Mark Newton's KUDZU ZOMBIES, which was filmed in the kudzu-covered Mississippi countryside. That film has since received a title change, and while I liked the title KUDZU ZOMBIES, I have to admit that the new one probably has a wider appeal: "KUDZU" has been ditched in favor of ATTACK OF THE SOUTHERN FRIED ZOMBIES.

A viewer might not know what to expect from KUDZU ZOMBIES, but I think ATTACK OF THE SOUTHERN FRIED ZOMBIES lets you know right up front what sort of movie you're in for.

Written by Christian Hokenson, the film's story begins when

GloboBioTech's testing of their experimental herbicide, Quadoxin, goes horribly wrong. Lonnie, a crop duster pilot, must lead a mismatched group of survivors to escape the deadly zombie horde after the Quadoxin transforms the citizens of the small town into zombies.

Quadoxin. Hmm… Brings to mind the gas that brought zombies back to life in THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, Trioxin…

Even bigger news than the title change is the fact that ATTACK OF THE SOUTHERN FRIED ZOMBIES has landed distribution. Gravitas Ventures will be releasing the film in North America next March.

The film's cast includes Timothy Haug, Moses J. Moseley, Wyntergrace Williams, Megan Few, Escalante Lundy, Kaitlin Mesh, and Clay Acker.

The special effects provided by Jonathan Thornton earned ATTACK OF THE SOUTHERN FRIED ZOMBIES the "Goriest Film" award at San Diego's FANtastic Horror Film Festival.

This one seems like fun to me. I look forward to checking it out next year.
