Just yesterday I told you how screenwriter John August’s next project was Sam Mendes’ PREACHER. Well it looks like August is going to be a very busy man with the announcement of another project on his slate today!
The Hollywood Reporter dropped word that August will once again be teaming with frequent collaborator Tim Burton for FRANKENWEENIE! That’s right, the guys that brought us flicks like CORPSE BRIDE, BIG FISH and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY will be teaming for FRANKENWEENIE. Let’s not forget that August, Burton, and one Johnny Depp are all lined up for the DARK SHADOWS movie as well.
Now I actually loved every bit of BIG FISH and found CORPSE BRIDE and CHARLIE to be ‘ok.’ So where does that leave FRANKENWEENIE? Beats me! What do you think? You can’t really go wrong with Burton and August, the guys are nearly guranteed to come up with something worth checking out.
So there’s that, now let me update you all on FRANKENWEENIE. The idea started as a short film by Tim Burton back in 1984. The story follows a man who brings his dog back to life after it is killed by a car. The short film is pegged as a comedy/horror and can be found on the recent re-released DVD of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Unlike the live action short film, the movie will be made in stop-motion animation and will be 3-D. It’s pegged for a 2011 release.
