So when we got the heads up that about a zombie Aussie flick that currently filming, you know my ass was ecstatic. It’s called DEAD COUNTRY, and is based on an original screenplay by KG Redhead, Anthony Davis and Clifford Hoeft. But when I say ‘original’, I use the word lightly, as anyone can tell by the synopsis, it’s anything but:
When a space ship containing hazardous material explodes over a small rural town, a deadly virus is unleashed upon the population, turning them in to zombies. Only the alien being responsible for the terrible accident and a small group of survivors can stop the epidemic from spreading, but first they have to survive the experience.
Wow. Geez. I’ve never heard of a zombie movie like that before! The funny thing is, it sounds surprisingly like Robert Rodriuez’s PLANET TERROR more than anything else… not that it’s a bad thing, as when you have a premise that works, why try and fix it!
COUNTRY already has a list of newcomers lined up to star, including Zoran Babic, Andrew Merkelbach, Carla D., Delphine, Julius Perks and Justin Lehmann. Don’t know any of these folks, but I’m pretty sure most of em’ will be dead by the end of the movie!
