Avatar: The Way of Water: full trailer showcases a magnificent return to Pandora

With under just about six weeks to go until its premiere, 20th Century Studios and James Cameron have finally revealed the full Avatar: The Way of Water trailer. While we got a teaser trailer a few months ago, this full-length trailer gives us a better idea of what to expect for our return trip to Pandora. For the first time, we get to see some of Sigourney Weaver’s performance as Jake Scully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldaña) daughter, Kiri. We also get a foreboding glance at Stephen Lang’s Quaritch in full Navi form, seemingly crushing a Navi skull in his bare hands. While the first teaser concentrated on the much-hyped underwater kingdom on Pandora, the full trailer gives us more of an idea of what the movie’s scope is going to be.

Here’s the latest synopsis from the studio:

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

While it’s taken thirteen years for us to finally get an Avatar sequel, I daresay it looks like it was worth the wait. Let’s not forget that the original, Avatar, spent a decade as the highest-grossing movie of all time (being replaced by Avengers: Endgame). While some have scoffed at the fact that it took James Cameron so long to deliver a sequel, I would never count him out. A lot is riding on the success of Avatar: The Way of Water, with a third film already on the way, and fourth and fifth sequels planned too. If all goes according to plan for Cameron, we’ll be getting new Avatar movies every two years for the rest of the decade.
