Awesome first look teaser of Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master featuring Joaquin Phoenix

Fans of Paul Thomas Anderson (THERE WILL BE BLOOD, MAGNOLIA, BOOGIE NIGHTS) will be pleased as punch with this first look teaser of his upcoming drama THE MASTER, featuring Joaquin Phoenix in his first post “retirement” role.  It’s everything you’d expect from Anderson, which is scene-chewing awesomeness.  It would be hard not to get excited for this project, which also stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Laura Dern, and Kevin J. O’Connor.

Check out the crazy:

The synopsis goes like this:

A 1950s-set drama centered on the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as “the Master” whose faith-based organization begins to catch on in America, and a young drifter who becomes his right-hand man.

This just looks too awesome for words.  After THERE WILL BE BLOOD, I felt that Anderson really upped his game and jumped into his own.  He was aping Scorsese in a big way when he began, but Anderson has become a true auteur and his work speaks for itself.  Some are put off by his pacing and music, but I feel that it creates a tension and atmosphere that really quakes your nerves with every frame.  That’s not an easy achievement by a long shot.

Not to mention the fact that Anderson pulls out some seriously brilliant perfromances from his actors and I have no doubt we will be in for a spectacle from both Hoffman and Phoenix.  I can’t wait to see it unfold.

THE MASTER is set to open in late 2012.
