Awesome! Mark Romanek to direct “Locke & Key” pilot for Fox

Visionary music video helmer and one-time WOLFMAN director Mark Romanek has been brought on board to direct Fox TV’s pilot for “Locke & Key”, the series based on Joe Hill’s popular comic. Hill, for those of you who don’t know, is Stephen King’s son. Should be enough to raise your eyebrows, or at least one of them.

The pilot episode was written by Josh Friedman, who co-wrote Steven Spielberg’s WAR OF THE WORLDS and was the showrunner for Fox’s “The Sarah Conner Chronicles”. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the writers behind TRANSFORMERS and STAR TREK) are producing.

Here’s the basic premise:
“Locke & Key” revolves around three kids who end up watching over a secret, spooky New England mansion filled with mystical doors that transport them to different worlds and give them special powers.

According to Wikipedia, this is how the first issue of “Locke & Key” went down (perhaps the pilot will follow suit):
After the murder of their father, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode Locke relocate with their mother to the family estate of Keyhouse, located in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. Sam Lesser, one of the teens who murdered Mr. Locke, is in a juvenile detention center and, by gazing in water, communicates with a supernatural force that promises to free him. Bode Locke, the youngest of the family, uncovers The Ghost Door, which separates his spirit from his body.

We’ll keep you in the loop when we hear more about this show. (Let’s just hope Fox doesn’t kill it before it’s able to get started.)
