Awfully Good Movies – The Rage: Carrie 2 (Video)

The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
Director: Katt Shea
Stars: Emily Bergl, Jason London, Amy Irving

This weekend, audiences will face their nightmares with Pennywise the Clown and the cinematic remake of Stephen King’s IT, so since this version of Stephen King’s classic book is getting spread over two movies, Awfully Good Movies is looking at another Part 2 to a King classic…that had nothing to do with Stephen King–THE RAGE: CARRIE 2! Yes, everyone loved Brian De Palma’s adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel, but how could the audiences of 1999 possibly be expected to care about some old movie from 1976? And with that thought, MGM went ahead with making a CARRIE sequel 23 years later, not realizing it was 23 years too late. I mean, sure, 95% of the characters from the first one all died in that fiery blaze, but at least Amy Irving made it out alive to once again portray the role of Sue Snell, who’s now looking over another telepathic misfit girl being terrorized by some sadistic bullies by the name of Rachel. And just like Carrie did, Rachel is fitting to use her newly discovered telekinesis to wreak some sweet revenge on her tormentors. But unlike the first CARRIE, this one doesn’t have Brian De Palma’s steady stylish hand to reign over the proceedings, and thus gets bogged down in a whole lot of obnoxious MTV music video editing and silly plot developments that just scream of a late-90s teen horror movie–and not a very good one at that. However, we do have a guy impersonating the killer from Wes Craven’s SCREAM using a Donald Duck voice. So…how about that? Bet you couldn’t think of that one, could ya, Stephen King? COULD YA?!?

And if you want to float down here with Awfully Good Movies, then look into the deadlights of these YouTube links…
