A rough teaser trailer for the still-in-progress futuristic action flick BABYLON A.D. has popped on the Vin Diesel fansite, VinXperience. Most of it is behind-the-scenes footage, but you still get a good idea of what the film will look like, and how large of a scale it’s being made on. I must admit, there’s some pretty cool looking stuff going on here, and while I’m not a big Vin Diesel fan, this could shape up to be a pretty sweet ride. (the fact that it co-stars Michelle Yeoh doesn’t hurt either.)
The story concerns a mercenary charged with delivering a young woman from Russia to Canada who learns that she has been manipulated by a synthetic virus, and what lies inside her could doom the human race. Seems a bit like THE TRANSPORTER meets BLADE RUNNER. With snow.
BABYLON A.D. has hit a few potholes on its way to completion: filming was halted for weeks because there wasn’t enough snow on location (they were forced to go to Sweden to shoot); the production was kicked out of its Prague soundstages because things were running over schedule; and apparently Diesel and director Matthieu Kassovitz have had, shall we say, a few clashes of egos.
