Even as Gilliam cobbles together his latest unlucky project THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS (interrupted by the death of star Heath Ledger), fate may be smiling on him for a change. Word is that star Johnny Depp wants to resurrect their aborted project THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE, as the star and director are convinced they can finish it this time around.
The original planned movie was loosely based on the classic Cervantes tale of a whimsical old Spaniard. The film was to star Depp as an obnoxious advertising exec who gets hurled back through time where he meets Quixote, and ends up becoming his sidekick Sancho Panza for various romantic adventures and windmill-tilting. The production was plagued by injuries, harsh weather, an uncooperative crew and a vengeful God who apparently really hates Gilliam’s filmography.
