Bad Robot’s World War II horror film Overlord gets a trailer

The folks at J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot are all about keeping secrets and releasing surprises, and in keeping with that approach to their projects, Bad Robot and Paramount have just released a trailer for the World War II horror film OVERLORD with no forewarning at all. Just in time to be attached to next week's Bad Robot/Paramount release MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT, I suppose.

Directed by Julius Avery from a screenplay by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith (based on an idea Ray and Abrams crafted together a decade ago), OVERLORD has been described by Abrams as "batshit", and the lucky attendees of CinemaCon who got to see some footage back in April tended to agree – it does indeed look batshit.

The story centers on

two paratroopers who are caught behind enemy lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. After reaching their target, the two paratroopers come to realize that besides fighting off Nazi soldiers, they also must combat against supernatural forces that are a result of a secret Nazi experiment.

Wyatt Russell, Bokeem Woodbine, Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Dominic Applewhite, Pilou Asbaek, Iain de Caestecker, John Magaro, and Mathilde Ollivier star.

Sporting a blend of AC/DC, war imagery, and horrific creatures, the trailer for OVERLORD makes it look like it's going to be a hell of a good time.

The film is set to be released in theatres and IMAX on November 9th. I'm going to be there for sure.
