Barbie rumors suggest that Greta Gerwig’s film will feature multiple versions of Ken and Barbie

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is one of the most talked-about films in Holywood, thanks in part to its all-star cast and mystery surrounding the plot. So far, Gerwig and company have remained mum about the story’s events, but now Kyle Buchanan may have blown the lid off of what’s to come. Barbie rumors are about to fly, folks. Get ready!

According to Kyle Buchanan of the New York Times, Gerwig‘s movie could introduce a multiverse of sorts for the blonde bombshell. While attending Cannes, Buchanan heard that Issa Rae and Hari Nef would also be playing different versions of Barbie in the film. By that same token, Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa will join Ryan Gosling in playing different versions of Ken.

You can check out Buchanan’s tweets from Cannes containing what he’d heard about Barbie below:

What is happening? Is Gerwig in the midst of filming Barbie Roberts in the Multiverse of Madness? Given that the identity of the Barbie doll extends to a myriad of ethnicities and cultures, the film may find Robbie’s Barbie learning that there are many versions of her across reality. While this may sound far-fetched, you must remember that Barbie has been around for over 60 years and is not restricted to the blonde icon that put her on the map. The same goes for Ken, who has been represented throughout the character’s history in many ways. Even if Buchanan’s information turns out to be false, this is a fun concept to toss around the old brainpan.

Barbie also stars Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, and Will Ferrell. Also joining the cast are Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya, and Jamie Demetriou. With so many stars assigned to what sounds like an ambitious project, others could be playing Ken and Barbie too.

What do you think of these Barbie rumors? Are you prepared to live your life knowing that a Barbie multiverse could exist on the silver screen? Let us know in the comments section below.
