Last month, we learned that Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Brave New World) and Dafne Keen (Deadpool & Wolverine) had signed on to take the lead roles in a new action thriller titled Barracuda, with Neil Burger (Limitless, The Illusionist, Divergent) directing. The film was gearing up for production in New Mexico at the time – and now, the first image has dropped online! That image, which features the characters played by Mackie and Keen, can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Scripted by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes, Barracuda has the following synopsis:
When Karl (Mackie), a former smuggler with a haunted past, storms a nightclub in Mexico to rescue Jodie (Keen), a kidnapped teenage girl, he ignites a chain reaction of blood and bullets that burns across 100 miles of deadly roads toward the U.S. border. The breakout turns into a high-speed race when Karl kills the brother of the ruthless club owner and steals his prized 1973 Plymouth Barracuda. Now hunted by relentless criminals, Karl and Jodie tear across the desert with no way to slow down.
Steven Bauer (Ray Donovan), Don Worley (Christmas in Mistletoe), and Anthony Del Negro (Running Point) are also in the cast.
Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, and Henry Winterstern are producing the film for Highland Film Group alongside Jack Rapke and Aaron Rapke for Image Movers, Kia Jam for K. Jam Media, Todd Lundbohm for 828 Productions, Peter Jákl for R.U. Robot Studios, and Joe Di Maio.
Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis serves as an executive producer with Image Movers’ Isaac Lilly, Wonder Street’s Mark Holder and Christine Holder, Bryan Coyne, Kyle Fox, and Blue Rider Pictures’ Walter Josten.
Highland Film Group is handling the worldwide rights to Barracuda and have just secured distribution deals in multiple territories, selling the rights to Amazon for Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Australia/New Zealand, and Canada; Feelgood Entertainment for Greece; Foxx Media Group for Czech Republic and Slovakia; Monolith Films for Poland; ATV for Turkey; Falcon Films for the Middle East; Shoval Film Production for Israel; PictureWorks for India; Prima Cinema for Indonesia; Kinolight for South Korea; and MovieCloud for Taiwan.
Perrier said, “Neil Burger is a fantastic director and brings his striking visual style to Barracuda. This is a big, bold project driven by visceral action sequences shot in real life – production is going very well and the footage looks incredible.“
