I honestly think the thought process behind certain genre sequels goes something like, people will be so confused about why the f*ck we would ever MAKE another one of these, that they’ll rent it on DVD just out of curiosity. How else to explain the news that the 1999 flick BATS is getting a sibling?
Instead of following stalwart small town sheriff Lou Diamond Phillips as he battles the genetically engineered rodents, this time the story will take place in the caves of Afghanistan as soldiers hunt down a terrorist leader. That’s one of those concepts that just makes my head hurt.
About the only good news is for the Romanian economy. The flick will be shot there just like every other direct-to-DVD genre project these days. I’ve gotta visit that country soon because with all the traffic they’re getting they must have great cheap hookers, or streets made of chocolate, or you gain the ability to fly once you’re there, or something along those lines.
