While your own appreciation of his movies themselves may vary, there is one indisputable fact about director/destructor Michael Bay: he’s the master of the “money shot.”
Whether it’s edgy cops shooting guns in slo-mo, gigantic robots pounding each other in slo-mo, or just people walking heroically in slo-mo, it’s invariably then blended in with zipping vehicles, expended ordnance, enthusiastically mangled metal and continent-sized explosions. Bay serves it all up like a lunatic chef slinging out thundercakes and bowls of gunpowder chowder, and for this, we are grateful.
For further proof, witness the tribute montage (he was just awarded the Vanguard Award for Excellence in Filmmaking at Showest) for the full glory of dynamic destruction and occasional character moments.
